PRACTICE: Outsourcing and Operational Management

CUSTOMER

A major Canadian company

NEEDS

Customer must outsource a portion of its repair service activities in order to maintain operations.

MANDATE

Drakkar received the initial mandate to manage a portion of the contingency plan to meet repair service needs for a specific sector of activity. The task was to operate with approximately 100 technicians.

RESULTS AND MEASURES OF SUCCESS
  • After the exceptional results achieved under Drakkar’s management, the mandate grew: responsibilities entrusted to 5 other suppliers were reassigned to the Drakkar team. At the end of the mandate, the team was responsible for 21 territory managers, 470 repair technicians, 401 vehicles and 9966 tools
  • Eight locations began operations
  • Over 40,000 home repairs were completed
  • Client's own measurement was 5 telephone repairs per technician per day for experienced technicians. Although client had not anticipated measuring Drakkar by this level due to the nature of the contract, Drakkar reached, in just a short period of time, a level of 4.8 repairs per technician per day

PRACTICE: Compensation

CUSTOMER

African telecommunications company

NEEDS

Customer wants to put in place a program to evaluate employee contributions at all levels of the company’s hierarchy.

MANDATE

Introduce a North American approach to performance evaluations covering all hierarchical levels, including unionized employees.

SOLUTIONS AND METHODS USED
  • Analysis of the organizational culture
  • Sharing of the consultant’s vision and perceptions
  • Development of a standardized evaluation approach at all levels, supported by a training guide for managers and a computerized form developed for different groups of employees
  • Approval by senior management
RESULTS AND MEASURES OF SUCCESS
  • At the end of the exercise, the customer was completely satisfied
  • Four months after the final report, the customer commented that the evaluation system was “perfect”

PRACTICE: Recruitment and placement | À la Carte Recruiting Services

CUSTOMER

A major Canadian company

NEEDS
  • The customer has a large pool of specialized labour (300 technicians) and is looking for a supplier to help sort through it.
  • A preselection has already been done, and the customer had a bank of 1000 résumés.
  • The time allotted for the task is three weeks.
MANDATE

Assist the customer in resume selection, interview scheduling and post-interview follow ups.

SOLUTIONS AND METHODS USED
  • A project manager and three recruiters assigned to the task
  • The 1000 résumés were sorted by recruiter and by region
  • Management of interview lists (approximately 30 interviews per day)
  • Organization of phone interviews and confirmation of face-to-face interviews at the customer’s offices
  • Post-interview follow-up
RESULTS AND MEASURES OF SUCCESS
  • In three weeks, the 1000 résumés were managed
  • Set up 514 interviews at the customer’s offices
  • The customer hired 309 of the candidates
  • The customer was impressed

NEEDS

The group wants to institute a competitive and fair compensation policy that reflects the industry’s ability to pay. Members want to obtain comparable salary statistics.

MANDATE

Perform a study of compensation for over 80 executive, professional, administrative and plant positions.
