Social Commitment
A choice for youth and for the future
Drakkar has long been involved in three major issues: supporting young people so that they succeed and stay in school, certain aspects of juvenile health and cultural diversity. These social commitments have become an integral part of the company’s activities and values, because they have grown out of the personal choices and involvement of our two presidents over the years.
Drakkar is involved and active in the following organizations:
Réseau Réussite Montréal
This group’s objective is to increase perseverance and success in school and promote the return to school. For almost 15 years, Drakkar has helped promote initiatives to encourage the business community to mobilize around concrete efforts to help young people develop their potential.
Ancre des jeunes
Ancre des jeunes offers students in Southwest Montreal who are having a hard time staying motivated at school and in danger of dropping out a structured environment and quality services suited to their needs to help them realize their potential and better fit in at school, at work and in the society. This organization offers concrete solutions to help over 85% of young dropouts go back to school. Drakkar has been involved with the organization for more than 20 years.
Forces AVENIR
The purpose of this organization is to recognize honour and promote the commitment of youth through projects that enhance knowledge and help develop a taste for success, personal achievement and civic mindedness. Drakkar is a “Grand Ami” supporter and contributes to the success of the annual recognition gala.
The “Ma carrière, mon choix” project
This project creates a connection between schools and companies and is intended to demonstrate to students in grades 9 and 10 the appeal of industrial and technical trades and the robustness of the job market to promote careers in these fields. Drakkar initiated a pilot project with Bombardier Aerospace and Développement économique St-Laurent and now acts as a strategic advisor and partner.
MICC’s “Place à la relève” project
The objective of this project is to help young people find summer jobs, particularly young people from visible minorities who live in Montreal’s disadvantaged neighbourhoods, to offer them an apprenticeship that matches their professional interests. For the second year, Drakkar offers internship in its various departments.
Fondation du Cégep André-Laurendeau bursary program
For close to ten years, Drakkar has been offering scholarship to a deserving student in transportation logistics at the Cégep André-Laurendeau to encourage their determination, talent and success at school.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)
The mission of the JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through support to research. Drakkar first became involved in the annual fundraising committee and in 2010 was involved in the annual Ride for Diabetes Research event.
World on our Doorstep (job market – succession – diversity)
Drakkar is a partner of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal’s World on our Doorstep program that gives entrepreneurs a chance to discover new talent by having their company host a qualified immigrant for an unpaid one- to three-day internship. This program helps immigrants expand their network of contacts and learn about the Quebec employment market.
Leaders Diversité
Drakkar helped create and implement this network that contributes to the economic development of Quebec in working toward an understanding and valuing of the skills and talents of immigrants and people from cultural communities to help them participate in the labor market and business networks.
